Architectural projects

Del Valle notes: “Whenever I enter a house, my mind immediately begins to redesign the spaces—tearing down walls, opening new windows, optimizing—to bring in more light and improve the habitat. Perhaps for this reason, even though I am not an architect, I have been commissioned to design several houses and to remodel or renovate many apartments. I enjoy exploring the site where I will design a house: the characteristics of the land and its native flora, the climate of the area, its views, and its light. I also pay attention to the lifestyle and profiles of those who commission me, and often, when they are couples, I must mediate and reconcile conflicting interests. I always ask for the freedom to make changes during the process, because once the foundations and first walls are up, one discovers things that cannot be seen on the computer—new ideas emerge…”

In his projects, Del Valle often designs curved roofs, sometimes like a succession of ocean waves, double-height common spaces, panoramic windows, and series of small windows that regulate light while maintaining privacy. He adds: “I always prioritize the inner life and enjoyment of the home over its external sculptural form—always the interior over the exterior.”
