Traces
(2012–2013) “Traces is the constitution of a narrative that operates by haunting the places through which human existence unfolds. (…) Its subtle passage writes history in successive archaeological layers, where the stain and its biology separate, fragile yet inexorably, the human being from other living beings. The stain, as part of living matter, is its most precise trace of life; the history of humankind consists of marking places—with blood, with sweat, with semen if one is a man, or with menstrual blood if one is born a woman.”
(text by Eugenia Brito, art critic, poet, linguist, and Chilean professor)
Del Valle notes: “I wanted to work with other materials, more three-dimensional works, something closer to sculpture, using fabrics stained by time and use. I chose to intervene pillowcases and sheets. For me, pillows are the nests where we rest our most intimate thoughts and dreams. Sheets are the cloths upon which our bodies spend two-thirds of our lives, impregnating them like shrouds.”
